In that we are attempting to clean up a former ally-of-convenience, who failed to stay the course, and are now making new and interesting friends and enemies, none to our benefit, aren't George Bush's policies, well, French?
If it ever comes out that Bush was taking huge bribes from Saddam Hussein then you could say Bush's policies were French...
If it ever comes out that we decide to pull out of Iraq before the mess we made is somewhat cleaned up and ask a better country (a la the French in VietNam) to come in and take over, well then we'd be acting French.
If we decide to give up without firing a shot ever, well then we'd be French.
Hey speaking of the French, I have a whole shipment of French WWII war relic guns. They've never been fired and were all only dropped once...
Posted by: SDBass on June 14, 2004 01:30 AMSDBass: your arguments there seem to follow the "patriotic" rhetoric our givernment has tried to infuse us with. You, like many Americans have fallen prey to the black-and-white, "us-and-thyem" mentality. It seems that you believe that just because the French didn't support the war in Iraq, they must be the enemy. Why? Ask yourself that and consider the following questions:
Have the French been strong allies for many years? Yes. In fact, they supported us militarily during the Revolutionary War. That means they gave troops and supplies. We owe our very existence as a country to France, for without their troops and supplies, we would not have been successful in driving the English away.
Did the French ever do anything for us that has lasting impacts to this day? Yes. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the French. The beacon of freedom and hope in our country was a gift from the people you likely believe are anti-American cowards.
Did the French support us going to war in Iraq? No. They did not, because they could not see the benefits of circuventing the United Nations, and international law just to deal with the possibility of weapons of mass destruction that turned out not to be in Iraq.
