I Meant, Well, I Know Her, Well, Aaaah, Never Mind.

So I read Atrios(real surprise). Atrios has a comment section, and most of the time I avoid it, but was interested in reading responses to Barack Obama's speech at the DNC. In those comments I saw someone mention that she would be proud to have Obama, along with Dick Durbin, as her senators. Now, I like Durbin, I think he is really under-rated as a sensible representative.

So I check the commenters name, and she has a blog. I check out the blog, and it's interesting, variety of topics, lively writing style, fun and interesting.

So, I throw her onto my RSS readers list of blogs to track(love that NetNewsWire Lite, by the way), and check into her whenever she has a couple of new posts. Then, one day she mentions living across the street from the high school, next to a statue of Abe Lincoln. Hey, I know where that is. Let's check the archive of posts, yep, she lives in the same town I do.

Well, small damn internet, no?

OK, so I regale my Dad with this tale, as an amusing anecdote. We giggle, and he tells me about produce he is getting from a little family run plot of acreage just outside of town. Turns out it's run by a girl I knew from the ice rink of my youth, when I played hockey and she was a speed skater.

Then the blog lady relates a tale of being at the farmers market and picking up heirloom tomatoes at a good price from a couple of teenage boys with a distinct farm name. Yep, sons of the speed skating organic veggie producer.

So, last night, my daughters 22nd birthday, myself, the Mrs., said daughter, and my younger sister are driving to big family get-together at The Great Impasta(daughter's choice, her b-day), and come to a stop sign at Green and Race, glance over, and there's the blog lady and her son, walking uptown(recognized from photos on her blog).

And I say "hey, there's Madame Insane!".

And the three women in the car all begin to gang up on me for randomly slurring some innocent bystander.

And I, wittily retort "No, that's her name, she's online, I know her, well, I don't know her, but, she's buying tomatoes from the speed skater, and well, ah, fuck it, let's go eat.".

So go read Madame Insane, so I don't sound like such a random nutter when I mention her, OK?

Hahahahaha! We're all sitting here in the living room (me, husband, and son online, daughter immersed in Harry Potter) chortling at this story. Awesome! "Hey, there's Madame Insane!" Woo-hoo!

Seriously, it's a really small internet.

Thanks for the nice words re: my blog. I think today I'll write about move-in day on campus, as it was starting to get hairy around Paradiso this morning as I was returning from buy a newspaper.

Nice to meet you! I'll be linking you! My blog, she needs some serious sidebar work.

:)

Wow. I just type away, not really even thinking about anyone reading this, let alone the people I'm talking about.

Holy cow, this thing's loaded! ;)

sorry for commenting on an old post, but this is funny to me because i had a "Hey, it's Lisa BK!" moment in the eschaton comments area a couple of days ago too. the internet really is like a small town - sometimes, even in a good way.
